Hello and thank you for stopping by my website. My name is Winona Rasheed and I write books for children.

It doesn’t matter if you are 6 or 106, you will enjoy the story telling through the pages of my books.

Good books last a long time and great stories never grow old. If you ask me, books are like diamonds.....treasures to behold. Good books may become tattered and worn, but the stories live on in our memories. Characters become long time friends that we can relate to and identify with; stories that can be passed down from one generation to the next, even when the books are no longer in existence. The story itself is still alive when we retell it, just like Sleeping Beauty or Cinderella.

A great book adds sparkle to an imagination that is lying dormant; sort of activating the sleeping giant in all of us when we get caught up in boredom, or those rainy day blues.

If you ask me, it is time to pull ourselves away from the TV, away from the computer screens, away from the video games and let our imagination do some walking through the pages of an open book, doing some good old fashion reading; exercising our minds with words of fiction and nonfiction.

Books are always popular and loving to read; especially at a young age....it is quite cool.

If you ask me...It is super-licous and hunky-dory when you make reading part of your day. You can never go wrong when you have a book in your hand because you are doing something quite positive. If you think reading is fun, you should try writing too; after all, reading and writing go hand in hand. I enjoy it because that’s what I do, read and write...each and everyday. In order to become an author or a writer, one must love to read, that’s the first step to unlocking the door of the imagination, and then you will be able to put that creative thought or idea down on paper; perhaps creating a masterpiece or a keepsake that will last forever.

An Interview with Winona

Where were you born?
I was born and raised in the "buckeye state" of Ohio. My home Town is Troy.

Where do you live now?
I reside with my husband in the Nation’s Capitol of Washington DC, but it is my desire to live in the "sunshine state" of Florida.

How long have you been writing?
I was a teenager when I wrote my first story; a collaboration done with my mother. However, the story just remained a manuscript not getting off the ground, because back then....we didn’t know what we were doing, or how to enter into publishing. But today, though my mother is gone, I carried on the dream of writing and accomplished what we didn’t know how to do in the 60’s. I guess you can say I’ve come a long way baby, with four published books.

What are your published Titles?
  • Stories from Grandma’s Garden
  • Sugar and Spice Fairy Tales for Girls
  • Smiles and Frowns through Animal Town’s Story Book
  • The Pearls of God
These books can be found at: http://www.lulu.com/winonarasheed as well as coming soon to online stores such as Barnes and Noble and Amazon.

Can you tell us a little bit about these books?
If you love fairytales, you will love these books of fantasy with talking animals, and wizards. There is even a story about a turkey who escapes a Thanksgiving Day dinner table. There is even a story of an elf that comes to the rescue of a girl whose best friend just moved away. These books are full of imagination and adventure, and with plots that children can identify with.

Since I love writing short stories and fairy tales, you will find that the above mentioned titles are a collaboration of short stories that I have written. Each book has three or more stories that make up its pages.

Have you published anything else that you want your readers and visitors to know about?
As a matter of fact, I do. I have two books that are out on CD’s:
  • Read with Me Storybook
  • Silver and Gold, the color of friendship
These books are published by L&R Hartley. With these books, all you have to do is pop the CD into your computer and read from your computer screen. Don’t you just love modern technology?

Do you have anything else coming out soon?
Yes, I have a new book that will be released soon entitled, "Wohali and the Little People." This is a fiction piece about a Cherokee Indian boy going to school for the very first time and who doesn’t want to give up his Indian heritage to fit in. This one is my favorite. I call it my pride and joy.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I love beautiful flowers, chirping birds and colorful butterflies, and scenic places that take your breath away. To me, spring and summer are the best seasons of all, because I love warmth. When fall and winter sets in, I love sitting by a cozy fire place and listening to the crackle sounds that the logs make. To me, that is serenity in today’s chaotic world. As you can see, it doesn’t take much to put a smile on my face, because it’s the simple things that matter the most. I’m just a down-to-earth kind of gal with a "country-side heart" that is warm and giving.

What do you plan for the future?
My plan is to keep on writing and creating stories and books that will be a keepsake and a treasure for those who love to read, and to encourage those who love to write, because stories and books make the world go around.

Everyone has a story to tell, you just have to spit it out and let it come forth; bring a smile to someone who could use a little sunshine in their day.
