From the Desk of Author Winona Rasheed

When it comes to creative writing, the passion of bringing words, conflict and a situation together, runs deep in my veins. My life is centered on writing, rather it is working on anew book idea, working on a freelance article, or just releasing my thoughts in a blog or two. I always manage to put a little writing into my daily life. For me, it is a must.

Some may think that a writer’s/author’s life is boring, for they do nothing but hang out with their computer keyboard or a typewriter if they are a tad bit old fashion. But I think not! There is complete satisfaction in meeting deadlines and bringing a story to an end, or to its climax.

As I see it, God has gifted us all with some kind of talent. For some it’s singing and dancing, or playing sports, or a musical instrument. But for me, it is writing and I have been at it for a long time. As a matter of fact, years upon years. However, my quest to become a writer/author is beginning to come together; which means sometimes success doesn’t happen over night. Sometimes it takes years before the door opens wide enough for you to step in. But again, when the door is ajar, don’t kick it closed and give up. Keep tugging at it with patience, endurance and dedication, especially when there is a deep passion to accomplish a dream or a goal. You cannot succeed if you give up or when you don’t believe in yourself or your capabilities.

So, if you write, write from the heart and not because you have to, but because you want to and need to, because you have a deep passion to become a writer/author.

Have a fabulous writing day, for the sky is the limit!

My Books All In A Row

I wonder, if someone asked you to name the titles of my books, could you? Well, I ain’t mad at you if you can’t, so here is what I am going to do. I am going to make a list of my titles for the next time you are at Amazon.com looking for a book for someone special.
Kids need to read more, don’ t you think? “And guess you what” (That’s a little Jamaican talk thrown in there.) Books by author Winona Rasheed will do the trick. I even have books with a collection of stories in them that will keep kids reading for days.
What a great way to end the day with a bedtime story, or share the book during circle time, or story time at school. Let an older sibling read to a younger sibling. I know, these aren’t picture books, but you wait, I am going to come up with some of those too. With my books, you have to use a lot of imagination, for the characters will dance around in your head and you will see them not on the page, but indirectly.
Just an idea, children can read one of my books, and draw, and color what they think the characters look like. This suggestion is for those children in the 6-9 year-old bracket. Now that is using your noggin. Then if they like, they can send me a copy of the picture that they drew from whatever story, and I will post it on my blog and website. Just send it to me as an attachment and in the subject line write the story title and senders name.
Now what do you think of that idea? Pretty clever, eh? I am looking forward to the responses, if any.
Send picture to: winonarasheed@yahoo.com
Subject line: title of story and artist name

Here they are: My Books All in a Row.

1. Sugar and Spice Fairy Tales for Girls- (A Collection of Short Stories)
2. Wohali and the Little People
3. Smiles and Frowns through Animal Town’s Storybook- (A collection of Short Stories)
4. A New Home for Her Cubs
5. Stories from Grandma’s Garden- (A Collection of Short Stories)
6. Broken Voices
Today is a good day to pick up a great book!

Broken Voices” is Still on the Move

Bumble bee loveWow, I am happy to announce that I am going to be doing another blog interview for my book, “Broken Voices”. Dr. Sharon Pajka of Gallaudet University has been trying to get in contact with me. I am so impressed because for some reason last night, I decided to check my comments on my website. Usually, I get nothing but junk mail responses so I hadn’t checked it for awhile. I almost did a flip out of my chair when I read her message, which was way back in January.I thought I had missed out on a great opportunity. But lo and behold, I contacted her last night and got a response today. She is still interested in introducing my book and me as an author to her students. Now what do you think of that? I’ll tell you what, I bet I start reading my comments now because people are reading my blogs after all. Hot diggity dog! Take a look at this website, she has my book listed. It is so awesome. I am on cloud 9 all over again. Thanks Dr. Pajka!

Check out her website and see who is featured…..My book “Broken Voices”. Now this is awesome!

Tuesday Chat

Hey, it’s me. I know I haven’t posted for awhile, but you can blame that on the fact that I have been terribly busy. Yes, I am still doing the freelance article writing and I just submitted two book ideas to two different publishers.  So, regardless of how busy I get, I still manage to do that writing. Hey, I have to, because if I didn’t….I would go completely nuts.

However, today, was quite different. I started off in a slump and couldn’t for the life of me get into my writing mode. But thank goodness inspiration came and I finished working on anther short story. I am going to go and do some tweaking to it and then go from there. I am so glad that I write short stories, because if I was a novel writer I’d probably still be on page one just trying to bring the conflict into the storyline.

I am waiting to hear from these two publishers, so I am keeping my fingers crossed, but oh well, if it doesn’t work out, I am not going to fret because I have a new list of publishers to go through, and the best part of that is……they all do email submissions. Now that I like! (Humm, I just looked at that long sentence….crazy writing in there. But hey, I am not going to correct it, I guess that’s because I am not in the mood. For now, I am just in the mood to write the first thing that comes to mind. After all, this is my blog. I don’t expect to be graded on it. However, if this was a book of mine, now that would be a different situation all together.

Ahh, March 8th already and I am still waiting on spring. The official first day of spring is suppose to be on March 20th. I am waiting to see the daffodils poke their little heads up out of the ground. Dag and to think we still have fall leaves to clear away, waiting until it warms up to get that job accomplished and out of the way. Also on this day is my granddaughter’s 13th birthday. Now her mom and dad have two teenagers living in the house. I tell you, my grand babies are just growing up too fast. It seems like they were only toddlers yesterday. My oldest grandchild is 14 and the youngest is 5 months. Now isn’t that something?

Well, I better be going, just thought I’d through a chit chat out there at you. Feel free to respond.

Until the next time, keep the pen and paper handy. Oh, what am I talking about, pen and paper…..everything is electronic….keep WORD open and write something.

Spring is in the air.....at least somewhere.
